The Production Process of Hydrophobic Precipitated Silica

LANCHEMIE Hydrophobic Precipitated Silica is produced via a two-stage, closed-loop process combining precipitation synthesis and in-line surface modification. First, sodium silicate reacts with sulfuric acid under controlled pH, temperature and agitation to form amorphous silica slurry. It is then filtered, thoroughly washed to remove salts, and dried to obtain hydrophilic precipitated silica base.


In the second stage, the base is dispersed and reacted with silane modifiers in a continuous wet-phase system. Hydrophobic alkyl groups covalently graft onto particle surfaces, replacing polar silanol groups. After filtration, low-temperature drying and jet milling, the final product features uniform hydrophobicity, low moisture absorption and excellent dispersion in non-polar systems.
